On July 6, in the plush amphitheater of the Auditorium del Massimo in Rome, Maharaji spoke of the need to acknowledge the present, reminding his audience that contentment is always independent of external circumstances.

Here are some excerpts from his talk:
All of you who feel victimized by this world, remember this. Nobody can steal your contentment away from you. You can give it away, you can abandon it, but nobody can take it away. The happiness of this heart — nobody can take that away from you. No one.

As a human being, are you, in your life, willing to turn within? Or have you accepted that everything that will come your way will come from the outside? If you look to the outside for everything — including your peace, including your happiness — you will be disappointed, because it cannot come from outside.

Something inside of you gets very happy when you acknowledge the present. ‘Today I will be conscious, today I will try my best to be clear. Today I will try to understand. Today I will feel my presence here. On this earth. My presence: not somebody else’s presence. My presence.’
